Learning
to fly an airplane is truly a "hands on" experience.
Your "Discovery Flight" is your opportunity
to experience the freedom of flight in a safe, controlled
environment in a new Light Sport Aircraft. It is an excellent opportunity to "try
it on" and see first hand what it is like to fly
an airplane. Many are surprised to learn that they will
occupy the pilot's seat while the instructor guides the
lesson from the copilot's position. All training aircraft
are equipped with dual controls and can be flown from
either position. This way the instructor has the opportunity
to allow the first time pilot to take the controls and
truly fly the airplane on the first lesson.
So
how do we get started? The first step is to call or email
SkyVenture Aviation, Inc to schedule your Discovery Flight.
It is best to let us know a day or two ahead of time so
we can schedule both your aircraft and your instructor
at a time convenient to you.
Your
first lesson will begin with a tour of our Flight School.
We'll introduce you to our staff and show you our ground
training facilities. Your instructor will then escort
you to the aircraft and briefly go over the major components
of the aircraft, the flight controls and the primary flight
instruments. Now the fun begins! With your instructor's
assistance, you'll start the engine, taxi to the end of
the runway, and perform the pre-takeoff ground checks
on the aircraft. You'll be on the controls with your instructor
during takeoff. Once you reach a safe altitude, your instructor
will gradually turn the controls over to you and allow
you to feel how the airplane responds to the flight controls.
By the time you are ready to return to the airport, you
will have some idea of how to control the airplane in
straight and level flight, turns, climbs and descents.
Many first time pilots are amazed at the built-in stability
of the training aircraft. It really is a lot easier than
most people would believe. Don't be surprised at the end
of the lesson to realize you were in control of the aircraft
for most of the lesson! But that is how we learn to fly;
we learn it by doing it.
After
the flight lesson, your instructor will assist you in
mapping out a personalized training program to fit your
needs. We will make every effort to answer your questions
and show you how we can make your dream of becoming a
pilot a reality. These steps often involve a discussion
of how the flight training course is structured, the required
training materials, and the costs involved. If you are
ready to begin your training, we will complete the enrollment
process and schedule your next flight lesson. It's that
easy! The entire process from the time you arrive for
your Discovery Flight takes about two hours. Subsequent
flight lessons will be scheduled in two hour blocks.
