Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) Ratings

FAR Part 141 requirements:

The following CFI courses are taught to CFR Part 141 standards using the Jepessen Certificated Flight Instructor Training Course. In many cases, these standards exceed the minimum requirements for CFI training conducted under CFR Part 61. We will be happy to tailor any of these courses to suit your particular needs for completion of your CFI training and preparation for the applicable CFI Practical Exam. While these courses assume the order of completion will be CFI, CFII, and then MEI, it is quite possible to complete them in any order you choose. Please call or email for details.

General Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
  • Hold either a Commercial Pilot Certificate or an Airline Transport Rating. Airplane Single Engine Land and Instrument Airplane Rating
  • Hold at least a third-class airman's medical certificate
  • Pass a written examination on aeronautical knowledge
  • Pass a written examination on the fundamentals of instruction (FOI)
  • Receive Flight and Ground instruction on the areas specified in CFR 61.185 and CFR 61.187
  • Pass the required practical examination appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought
