Instrument Rating

This course is VA approved

FAR Part 141 requirements:

  • Hold a valid Private Pilot Certificate
  • Be able to read, speak and understand the English language
  • Hold a third-class airman's medical certificate
  • A minimum of 30 hours of ground training (may include computer based self-study)
  • Pass a written examination on aeronautical knowledge
  • Pass a practical examination on maneuvers and procedures
  • Accumulate a minimum of 35 hours of instrument training time from a properly certificated flight instructor to include a maximum of 14 hours of instrument training and a flight training device.
  • 1 cross country flight in simulated or actual instrument conditions, on Federal Airways or as routed by ATC, involving a distance 250 NM; including one segment of the flight consisting of at least 100 nautical miles between airports; involving an instrument approach at each airport; and involving three different kinds of approaches with the use of navigational systems.

However, experience has shown these estimates to be typical and realistic. figures. In any case, you will only be charged for the actual hours flown, and actual ground instruction time spent with the instructor.
